Attracting Free Traffic
When you have a website the next thing you must do is find a way of attracting free traffic because the other words for a website that does not attract viewers is wasted time. There are so many myths built around this subject that many people are selling programs promising miracle cures. Like all miracles they (the answers) are very rare and should not be tried until you have exhausted the nil cost way first.
1. Most free traffic comes to your website when somebody searches for a certain "keyword(s)". You do not have to pay for this traffic because Google, Yahoo, MSN and thousands like them are only too happy to send visitors to your site. They ask only a few simple things from you to feed all of this traffic to you:
Your website must be relevant to the keywords you use; for instance if you use the keywords "attracting free traffic" and your site is about animal husbandry your site will be ignored as irrelevant.
They ask that your content be original - in other words they want your view of it and not content copied from other websites.
They want to see your website updated at least once each week. That means you add new content or substantially modify existing content. Please be aware of substantially; correcting a spelling error or changing one or two sentences is not updating it is simply maintaining.
They demand that you meet their criteria for listing websites and web pages.
There are other paid methods that attract visitors and this will be covered in future articles - for now we concentrate on what you can do without spending cash.
2. We now come to another important factor and that is after attracting website traffic you must keep the visitors coming back. This is done by the quality of your content and by offering them the opportunity to subscribe to a monthly newsletter. When people subscribe to a newsletter they do so for one of two reasons: First because they like your site and wish to become a regular visitor. Second because you offer a service or product they have been seeking.
Be aware that they want some incentive in return for passing over their email address. Something like an eBook or some software that you gift to them for subscribing.
This may seem a lot of hassle just to get somebody to subscribe to a newsletter - Maybe it is until you look at the business side of having a list of subscribers that trust you. General online wisdom is that each member on your list are worth one dollar per month to you. Suddenly it all looks different in this light because if you have 100 subscribers you will make $100 profit each month. I leave you to do the math for 1,000 or even 10,000 subscribers.
Everything starts with a website that attracts an abundance of free traffic.
