Online Business 2

In article 1 of building an online business we took a brief overall look at what not to do and that is of paramount importance; the main lesson of that article was how easy it is to spend a lot of money on garbage that will never help you. We also mentioned proven ways to make money online and will be devoting a further article to each of these methods, but for now a brief overview of each.

At ayecasher we have a strict rule that you have a set amount to start up with and after that you only spend one dollar after you make two. This is common sense in your online business just as it is any any venture.

- Allowing other businesses to advertise on your website. There are many programs that will enable you to participate. We will cover these deals at a later date.

- Affiliate marketing should also be free, if they ask for a fee walk away and this will keep it free. Often you see a click through banner for, say, Books on a website. This indicates that the webmaster of that site is an Affiliate Marketer for a book store and if you buy via this site a book or CD the webmaster will receive a small commission on the sale.

- You may decide to sell goods directly from your website and have your own online store. There are any number of things you can sell, some will cost you nothing others you will buy wholesale and sell retail. Just remember that people buy online for cheapness and you will fail if you offer goods in your online store that are not substantially cheaper than available in the local High Street.

- Everybody knows eBay and other online auctions. People that buy here are looking for prices substantially cheaper than they find in online stores, so if you choose eBay as an avenue to make money be sure you can buy well to sell cheap.

The difference between an online business and a High Street business isn’t as big as you may imagine. When you build a High Street business you pay higher rent for a premises that is exposed to more people because the system is that if your window display can draw one in every thousand people that pass into the store then you need a location where a million people a day pass. This will give you a thousand potential customers walking into your store. If half of those actually buy something then you have 500 sales each day. It’s simple math.

When building an online business you ignore the location because all online traders are in one location – the World Wide Web. So now you have to decide what will draw the maximum number of potential buyers into your site. The answer is content.

Content is your store window because most people go online seeking free information – the moment they see a price they usually discard that site and seek the information elsewhere. Very few people will visit your site, or sites, with an express view of buying something.

Each of us is an expert in something, it may be losing weight, dogs, cats, birds, gardening, entertaining children, raising children, caring for a disabled person, football, baseball, cricket, rugby, Aussie rules, natural health – I just can’t list all of them. On the www there are literally tens of thousands of people with a similar interest seeking the information that only you can give. This information is your store window and the people seeking it are your potential customers.

If you have never built a website and find the whole thing a little scary I suggest you use a service linked below called Site Build It. This site is a SBI site and they are one of the best groups of people you can imagine. Their forums are just great and the entire community is like a club and will give you what help you need. Their system of website building is so simple that all you really need do is type in your content. I am a computer dummy and already have three SBI sites that run so smoothly I can almost sit back and forget the day to day problems of building a website.

In a later entry on the site we will also give some help to all of you that feel that you have no special knowledge to share on the web. We will show you how to access free information that can be sold on eBay or used to build an interesting and knowledgeble website. There is no reason why everybody cannot build an online business.
