Setting Goals and Outcomes Article 2

Setting goals and outcomes is the second of two articles. Hopefully you have read Goals and Outcomes 1 already and if you have made it this far then you certainly have an interest in the subject. In this article we discuss setting outcomes and to understand how to achieve the best results you must first take a look at how your minds work. The plural is intentional; we all have two minds, a conscious mind and a sub-conscious mind.
Do you sometimes feel that setting goals does not work for you? Join the other 98% of mankind because they feel the same way, why? Because nobody ever taught them the correct way of setting goals and outcomes. Your outcome must be way out in the future and each goal must be achievable.
Have you ever heard somebody quote that Einstein only ever used 10% of his brain capacity? This is supposed to indicate that 90% of everybody’s brain is unused and the statement is 100% garbage. Our conscious mind is only 10% of our brain, recent research has indicated it could be as little as 3%, – the really interesting part is the other 90% - our sub-conscious brain. This sub-conscious area is the Random Access Memory (RAM) of the most powerful computer on earth – your brain.
Without attempting to blow my own trumpet I can access my sub-conscious at will and draw on every piece of information I have ever learned at will. 15 years ago I worked almost solely in my conscious brain – today I prefer to use my sub-conscious. But this is for a future article. For now I want you to realize that your sub-conscious works infinitely faster than your conscious brain and in most people it is where their secret desires and hopes exist.
Therefore if I ask you what is it that you really desire to achieve in this life and you take more than a split second to answer then you are almost certainly working from your conscious brain because it is too slow. Also because you take time answering such a simple question I know that your answer is not truly what you desire. Your conscvious mind checks have watered down your desire to something you consider acceptable to me.
Don’t feel guilty about it, you’re not supposed to understand the process – we are all slow first time we are asked such a question.
The reason that your conscious mind cannot answer that question is because it runs safety checks like: “Is this dangerous?” or “Will I make a fool of myself if I say this?” - What this does is hack away at your desire until what you finally say is a homogenized version of your true desire: Something created for public rather than private consumption. If your first (sub-conscious) thought was: “I want to be worth $100 million” what may come out is: “I’d like to increase my wealth.”
Now if you set an outcome of “I’d like to increase my wealth” you will probably achieve it quite quickly. What you have done is told your mind that you wish to increase your wealth; that’s fine – so next time you see five cents on the ground and pick it up your mind will tick off that task as being finished because your wealth has increased. Your mind no longer needs to seek the links to increase your wealth because you are five cents richer. In fact its hardly worth setting goals to increase your wealth it is a simple one step process.
What if you had been brave enough to set your first sub-conscious thought of: “I want to be worth $100 million” as your outcome? (The outcome could be that I want to end starvation in the world or I want to live in a nice house in a nice location or absolutely anything that your mind tells you and you want.)
What would happen is that you would have picked up the five cent coin and your mind would say: “Great, that’s the first small step towards accumulating $100 million” and it will go on seeking the links to enable the next step or goal to be achieved.
Be careful how you set your outcome because your brain will ensure that you achieve it. The only recognition tip I can give is that your outcome will come suddenly and may not sound achievable. Accept it as your chosen outcome because nothing is beyond you. Then allow your conscious mind to set the goals that will achieve your chosen outcome.
If you do not have an outcome setting goals will not work. Just don’t underestimate the phenomenal power that lies within each of you. If you mind can hold the desire, you can achieve it. All you have to do is trust in yourself and the ability of your mind to take you where you wish to be. When you master this your success is assured as you will be setting goals to achieve outcomes with ease.
The point I am trying to make is when you set an outcome be sure that it is big enough to stretch the genius that is you - because if you set it too low that is what your mind will lead you to achieve.
Setting goals and outcomes are a minor part of self-knowledge. The more you understand about the powers that lie within each of us the more you will achieve in every aspect of your life. Within you is a genius waiting to be set free and only you have the power to make this happen and totally control your life.
